There's milk and there's MILK...

It might sound very silly but one on the things that I miss big time every time I go back to Spain is fresh milk.

Yep! For the exception of one brand, Letona, which (1) I personally do not like and (2) it comes only as full fat milk (not very extensive product range), there is little or nothing else to buy. Of course, you can always go for pasteurized milk, which can be in the supermarket shelf for years, and wont expire. Obviously, does not even taste close to real milk.

Almost every country I travelled to, there is a wide range of fresh milk brands and types (full fat, low fat, skimmed, with calcium, etc...). Just came from Australia and was the same case, but everytime I go to spain I have to go back to the sad, tasteless, boring, anti-milk.

Unfortunately, Spaniards do not have anything to compare against, so they believe what they drink is milk, but in fact is not.

  1. :) You made me laugh, I feel the same!

That's one of my pet peeves when visiting family in Spain. They have this ridiculous array of choice of "white liquid substances that come in 1l format", but no proper milk with proper taste. And it gets more complicated with my son, raised in proper fresh milk who won't (and shouldn't!) drink those things...

At the risk of sounding like an old person, when I was a kid we did have proper fresh milk, delivered daily, Associacio de Vaquers de Catalunya! (but maybe they went out of business!

    Here's my definition:
    If either it's not refrigerated,
OR it doesn't rot in a week,
OR it has fats that come from fish (omega 3),
OR it has walnut fats on it,
    OR it's made from soy,
OR it comes in a box,
OR it has ingredients I can't pronounce...

I don't care how you call it, it's not milk!

  2. Patxi, I got an email regarding this post entry from a friend that I might could help us both. I will copy the email here:

Para la próxima vez que vengas ya sabrás dónde ir.

1 - Máquinas distribuidoras de leche fresca (sí, es fresca Y entera, no te ofrecen 35 tipos de leche). Tienes la máquina en la estación de Ferrocarils de Sarriá. Éste es el mapa

2 - Te recomiendo que pruebas La Granja Armengol . En la Calle Esculeas Pías, 64 (esquina C/ Carrençà) está la Granja Preciados. Allí la econtrarás.

    No te conformes con Letona

I have to say thank you to Javi, I did not try it yet, but I will definitely do next time I am in BCN...
